This page allows you to download the alpha version of jephyrBar, a NeXT-style
wharf bar for Hugh
Kennedy's kick-ass jephyr
java messaging software. Also uses Matt Smart's SmartJephyr
classes.
The current version (.5a "the chicken is in the biscuit" release) is pretty rough,
but there are a few basic things
you'll
need to get started, and a few things you'll need to know to use it:
- to start:
- You'll need java 1.1 or higher
- You'll need the jephyr (.jar file now included, but see above
link for the latest and greatest) and
smartjephyr (relevant classes now also included, but see above
again) classes in your classpath
- You'll need a .anyone (sample included)and .jephyrc file (also explained
above)
- to use:
- You'll get 'gaps' under many window managers. Sorry.
- Square images are good. They'll get stretched to a square aspect
ratio anyway, so you might as well use them.
- Clicking on a button brings up a message dialog for that user
- Clicking on a message window sends the message you've typed in; clicking
on a user button (any user button) cancels it.
- For any user you want to 'image' just put a JPEG image file named
(username-as-it-appears-in-.anyone).jpg in the directory from which
you're
running jephyrBar. If they're logged in, jephyrBar should do the rest.
- Running in debug mode makes you miss repaints. sorry.
current commandline options for this thing:
usage: java jephyrBar (top|left|bottom|right) (--configfile file)
(--debug) (--demo) (--size panelsize) (jwgc options)
- (top|left|bottom|right) : whichever string describes the edge you want to
stick this bar to.
- (file) : the complete path of an alternate config file
- (--debug) : turns on lots of debugging information to the java console
- (panelsize) : an integer pel size for the square image buttons.
- (--demo) : activates networkless "demo" mode, a secret and mostly useless
feature
If you send me an image/url, i'll be happy to include it in the archive; right
now, I've made a 'good' image for myself, and have included hacks for a few
people who've sent me things or to whom I write. I prefer black and white for
uniformity and artistic reasons, but use whatever. Future versions of the
default image will probably have "lamer" written on them, so submit your
pictures to me or someone with access to the webRepository now.
Download the 5-beta "the chicken is in the
biscuit" jephyrBar!
now with multi-recipient support and integrated jwgc!
